Nashville Buys 7 Electric Buses From Proterra
Nashville’s Metropolitan Transit Authority recently announced the purchase of seven battery-electric buses and an electric charging station from the US-based company Proterra Inc.
The electric buses are set to be built at Proterra’s Greenville, SC manufacturing facility. They are currently expected to be delivered to the Nashville MTA before the end of the year.
Proterra provides more:
The funds for the zero-emission electric buses and the electric charging station are the result of Nashville MTA’s successful application for a federal Clean Fuels grant and local matching funds from the city. The Proterra buses will serve the free downtown Music City Circuit.
Proterra was selected through a competitive procurement process, which included bids from Wave, New Flyer, EV America and BYD.
“We are committed to investing in transit improvements that better our community by reducing harmful emissions and improving fuel economy,” stated Paul J Ballard, CEO of Nashville MTA and the Regional Transportation Authority of Middle Tennessee (RTA). “By incorporating the Proterra buses into our fleet, we are moving in the right direction to ensure Nashville MTA’s transit services benefit the environment for years to come.”
In related news, former US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood recently joined Proterra’s Board of Directors. Releasing the statement: “I believe in the need for dependable, lower cost, more sustainable transit options. EV is the future of transit, and I am pleased to lend my knowledge and support to building this future with Proterra – the clear industry leader and the only American EV bus manufacturer.”
