Ah, ExxonMobil decided to go and play the energy density card in a recent commercial, comparing the energy density in a gallon of gas to electricity in a somewhat “clever” way. One thing left out of the equation, however, is that, “while gasoline does have a high energy density, internal combustion engines are only able to use 30% or less of that energy for automotive propulsion. Thus, burning gasoline to drive a vehicle is still very inefficient,” as one GM-Volt Forum member noted. But some even better responses might be as follows:

Yes, only one of these was actually created as a response to the ExxonMobil commercial. Though, the other four are points worth making if you want to talk about the pluses and minuses of powering mobile phones (or cars) with gas versus electricity.

The bottom line is, there are a few reasons why we don’t power everything with oil:

  • it would be disgusting
  • it would be expensive
  • it would be inconvenient

Before long, those things will help to move us away from powering our cars with oil, along with the fact that driving electric is just way more enjoyable, gasmobiles would destroy our climate, and more.
