The world’s largest hybrid hydro and photovoltaic (PV) project has been completed in the Qinghai Province, China, with the successful grid connection of the Longyangxia Dam.

Yingi Green Energy, who provided 15 MW of its YGE series PV modules for the project, offered their own congratulations last week, to all parties involved in the completion of the mammoth project.

“We feel delighted about the successful grid connection of world’s largest hydro and PV hybrid project,” said Mr. Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy.

The Longyangxia Dam has been in existence since 1992, but the hybrid hydro and PV project was initiated earlier this year, and commissioned earlier this month. The hybrid project is expected to last 25 years, and with a total capacity of 320 MW, is expected to deliver 498 million kWh PV electricity per year to the grid.

Various sources describe the dam as being built for the purposes of generating hydroelectric energy, as well as providing irrigation to the surrounding region, and mitigating flood and ice flows coming down the Yellow River on which the dam is built.

Taking the opportunity of their congratulations to remind the world of what else Yingli is doing, Mr Miao also pointed to the additional PV installations they have been involved with.

“In addition to this hydro and PV hybrid project, the Company has also been acting proactively in integrating PV with architecture, agricultural, and other fields. For example, the Power Valley International Hotel – world’s first five star hotel with BIPV application applied our curtain wall Series PV modules, integrating solar power generation into the overall design and making the building more environmental friendly.”

“The Company also focuses on the innovative applications of PV modules with traditional agriculture, promoting the development of eco-agriculture,” Mr. Miao added. “Besides, we installed more than 20 MW PV modules on our factories, parking lots, and other facilities, which will provide approximate 23 million kWh solar electricity per year for the Company’s production and operation. This will help the Company to reduce CO2 emission and increase renewable energy consumption.”
