3.2 Million Tesla Supercharger Miles Already Logged

On Monday, Tesla Motors tweeted that its Model S owners had already logged 3.2 million miles (5.15 million kilometers) on the company’s Supercharger network. To be honest, that’s a lot more than I would have guessed.

Tesla also noted in the tweet that 3.2 million miles of electric driving offsets about 130,500 gallons of gasoline. At a cost of $0 per charge (the network is free for Model S owners, and is supposed to always be free for them), that would be about $465,493 in savings based on the average price of gas across the US on Monday ($3.567/gallon).

If you used the average price of gas in California (where the largest number of Model S’s are sold), the savings amount to about $528,786. With that amount of money, Tesla could have given away about 7½ Tesla Model S’s. But I imagine the free and super-fast charging sometimes directly powered by solar panels goes a longer way in attracting customers.
