A reader and new friend of ours who runs a recruiting company largely focused on cleantech industries recently reached out and got on a call with me in order to get some help finding the perfect social media marketing manager for his company. While I couldn’t think of anyone who was looking for a job in exactly this nexus, I figured some of our readers might be interested — so, to help you out (if you are one of those people) and to help him out, I thought I’d write up this quick post.

The position actually goes a little beyond cleantech, but my impression is that the deeper you are into cleantech, the better. If you haven’t been a social media manager before, I wouldn’t let that stop you from applying — this is a new field, so there aren’t really many experienced social media marketers out there anyway, especially not ones who have in-depth knowledge of cleantech.

Social Media Marketing Manager

Helix Recruiting, Inc. is one of the few boutique search firms that specializes in high level research based recruiting for disruptive technologies in CleanTech, Specialty Chemicals, Utilities, EPC and OEM Engineered Products for Power Generation.  Our positions range from senior individual contributing engineers and scientists to CxOs.

Helix Recruiting is seeking a Social Media Marketing Manager  to drive Helix Recruiting’s online presence and continue to develop its social media strategy and brand recognition.

If you get bored easily, then this opportunity may be for you since we work in multiple energy, cleantech and renewable sectors and market to executives and companies ranging from Venture Capital backed startups to multinational, billion dollar, market cap companies.

This position will require someone with a very strong journalistic bent in that they will be:

  • Writing articles about all of our sectors and sectors we want to be in from a technical opinion or reporting perspective.
  • Articles and opinions about job initiatives and outlooks in our various sector
  • Getting regular interviews with sector venture capitalists, company executives, thought leaders.

Position Description

  • Create the strategy through social media initiatives to position Helix Recruiting as a Super Influencer in the sectors that we service.
  • Create and post content to company blog as well as day to day management of  social media sites such as  LinkedIn, G+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.
  • Understand target audiences , know their behavior and create interesting solutions that reach and convert behaviors.
  • Identify and secure social media influencer partnerships..
  • Write in various formats with attention to voice and audience and the ability to adapt both as needed.  Approximately 50% of target audience has a PhD in their respective field.
  • Monitor and grow social communities and respond to conversation in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Attend industry conferences as needed to gain further technical insights and meet up with industry leaders.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising or Communications.
  • Excited by challenge and opportunity of a fast moving, high opportunity start-up environment.
  • Independent and self-motivated with the ability to take an idea and run with it.
  • 5+ years of verifiable experience in social media, community management, public relations and/or journalism.
  • Exceptional writing skills (please include samples with your submission).
  • Abiltiy to communicate effectively with executives and highly educated engineers and scientist.  For instance approximately 35% of one of our LI groups, Aftura has a PhD in their respective field.
  • Strong history of published articles in trade or technical journals.
  • A demonstrated track record and  passion for social media and understanding of how to build online communities.
  • Experience with the following social media channels; LinkedIn, G+, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, SlideShare.
  • Experience writing for, producing and managing a WordPress blog.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office and Excel SEO analytics.
  • Ability to analyze competitor strategies and innovate on best practices
  • Ability to travel to conferences 1 to 3 times per year as needed.
