Renault Twizy EV Driven Around Dubai Mall By F1 Team
Ever wanted to see a tiny “smart car” — such as the Renault Twizy two-seat electric vehicle — driven around the inside of a large mall by Formula One drivers?
Maybe not?
Well, now you can anyways — thanks to a recent PR stunt that happened at The Dubai Mall in the UAE.
A couple of days before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a couple of drivers from the Renault-powered Lotus Formula One Team — Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado — managed to find the time to entertain spectators at what is, apparently, the biggest “shopping and entertainment destination” in the world via the “racing” of a Renault Twizy EV throughout the facility.
It’s actually a bit of fun. The video does showcase some of the Twizy’s best qualities pretty well — very compact, very quiet, turns well, etc.
For those wondering about what the connection is here — the Renault Twizy reportedly utilizes technology developed via the company’s Formula One operations, which have been ongoing for a long time now.
The video is worth a view, I’d say.
“Through the electrically-powered car the drivers raced down the alleys of The Dubai Mall, while visitors were gazing at the unusual scenes. From the Fountains to the Aquarium and even the ice rink, drivers went around iconic places of the famous Mall,” Renault writes.
Kind of what makes you wonder how big The Dubai Mall actually is (I’ve yet to visit the place). It looks huge, and the “race” didn’t look too short — even if it was with a car as small as the Renault Twizy.
