World’s 1st “Lithium” mobile EV charger: Club Assist “has unveiled a WORLD FIRST with the ‘Lithium Mobile EV Charger’. The lithium-powered charger is the first clean, green, Level 2 EV charging solution for emergency roadside assistance…. The new ‘completely green’ and ‘extremely compact’ solution can give a standard electric-powered car, enough charge in 10 minutes to sustain a driving distance* of 5 to 6 kilometers, designed to allow the vehicle to travel to the nearest permanent charging point for a full charge.”
Ford starts shipping Ford Focus Electric: “About 350 Focus Electric cars will be sent to 67 dealers in California, New Jersey and New York over the next couple weeks. Manufacturing executives signed off on the decision on Friday.”
Energy Efficiency
DOE announces “Apps for Energy” winners: “Kicking off ConnectivityWeek, a national conference gathering of top Smart Grid leaders in Santa Clara, Calif., Senior Energy Department Official Patricia Hoffman today announced the winners of the DOE’s “Apps for Energy” contest. Winners were based on an expert vote, and four of the five judges participated in ConnectivityWeek’s opening panel.
“According to the DOE’s press release, the competition ‘challenged innovative software developers to build new apps – for mobile phones, computers, tablets, software programs and more – that utilize data from major utility companies to help consumers and businesses use less energy and save money.'” More on “Apps for Energy”
HP expands “world’s most efficient data center”: HP “has completed installation of an HP EcoPOD at its Alpharetta, Ga., next-generation data center (NGDC)…. The HP EcoPOD—the world’s most-efficient data center—is located on-site and expands the compute space of one of the HP data centers that was a part of the company’s original transformation to consolidate 85 internal IT data centers worldwide to six NGDCs in the United States.”
ACEEE takes look at low-ranking states for energy efficiency: “In recent years, many states have embraced new energy efficiency policies and as a result, investments in energy efficiency programs have been increasing steadily. But a group of about a dozen states remains year after year at the bottom of the ACEEE State Energy Efficiency Scorecard. In this report, we describe the results of numerous interviews with policy-makers and policy influencers in the states ranked in the bottom ten of the Scorecard to explore why they have not embraced energy efficiency and to investigate the approaches and policies in the utility sector, the public sector, buildings, and industry that might allow them to get started or accelerate their activities.”
