Solar Schools Goes National (UK)
I’ve written about 10:10’s “Solar Schools” program a couple times now. Now, the news is, the UK climate activism organization has expanded the program nationwide. 10:10 writes:
Last year we dreamed up a way for schools to get their own solar panels by raising money from the local community. Everyone got excited about the idea, but no-one knew if it would actually work. So we recruited eight schools to give it a try.
Seven months on, they’ve shown that it’s possible – five of the trial schools already have their panels up and running! They raised more money than they ever expected, bringing the community together and boosting their other carbon-cutting efforts in the process….
So now it’s time to go bigger. We’re rolling this out to 100 schools nationwide, and you’ve got a big part to play.
If you’re in the UK, or are just excessively enthusiastic about this program, you can share the news and try to stimulate some donations via Facebook and Twitter.
And if you’re a school insider, you can do more:
If you work at a school or sit on the PTA, you can put your school forward for the programme today! You’re not committing to anything yet – we’ll get in touch and help you decide if Solar Schools is a good fit.
Visit www.solarschools.org.uk/apply to get started.
Looks good.
Again, would love to see this idea spread to the US — if it doesn’t soon, maybe I’ll just have to be the one to get it rolling! 😀
