Dutch Railway Commuters Slide into Holland Train Station (Videos)
OK, this is too cool to pass up. Ever dream of our cities being a little more like playgrounds? Well, apparently, some creative Dutch design folks are on your side. In the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, design firm HIK Ontwerpers installed slides (or “transfer accelerators”) at the Overvecht Railway Station.
“The designers explained the slide is a gift to the rail commuters and hope it will create a playful urban area that could generate positive energy in a disadvantaged neighborhood,” the UK’s Metro reports.
Have to love this translated line from second video below, as well:
“As you can see, we have become so lazy we can’t even walk down stairs.” Though, I wouldn’t be so cynical — I think it’s just a creative way to make the train station more interesting and fun (and, heck, it really is an efficient mode of transport, so it’s practical, too).
Here are two videos of the slide in use (yes, it works like any other slide):

I am going there this weekend, I’ll have to check it out.
oooh, luck you 😀
love the netherlands
Take a pic of the slide (& anything else) for us if you can 😀
Simple, effective, fun. Kudos.
Heh. I wish I was 8-years old again – that little dude was straight up those stairs for another go. Actually, there’s a design flaw – if you’ve got kids in tow, they’ll never want to leave. Oops. Missed the train! 😀
Haha, true 😀
It has nothing to do with cleantech but I gotta admit this is a brilliant and fun idea. 🙂
