Their solar CSP also has applications in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) for use in oil fields, replacing natural gas, according to Middle East Utility News. For that use, one estimate from Oil and Gas IQ is that Glasspoint’s solar CSP can boil water and generate steam at an average cost from $1.75 to $3.00 per MMBTU.

The GlassPoint solar CSP plant places the glass surface twenty feet above ground level to minimize dirt and dust accumulation, making it ideal even in dirty and dusty environments, where most of the dust is under about 12 feet.

Because they are selling their smaller scale solar array as an industrial product and not as a utility-scale energy farm, the company is not constrained in the use of water to clean the panels, so it incorporates a fully automated washing system for unattended cleaning.
