The government in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has finally come around to provide some relief to scores of solar and wind energy developers which it had recently threatened with tariff renegotiations.
As uncertainty over the future of power purchase agreements, as well as a liquidity crunch, plagues the country, the Indian government has taken measures to address some of these issues.
Concerned over the lackluster pace of capacity addition in the solar power sector, the Indian government has made amendments to the auction and project implementation timelines. The recent amendments to the policies would result in much quicker implementation of large-scale solar power projects giving hope to the government that the 2022 target of 100 gigawatts solar power capacity will be realized.
Like China, India also aggressively revised its renewable energy targets. The latest policy decision comes from the Ministry of Power in India that sets out an ambitious new target for the share of renewable energy in the country’s electricity consumption.
