German Grid Reaches Record Reliability in 2011 Thanks to Renewables

Germany’s electric grid recently set a personal record with a downtime of only 15.31 minutes in 2011, that’s significantly lower than the already impressive 17.44 minutes of downtime that occurred during the time period from 2006 the 2010. This basically crushes the common myth that renewable energy hurts grid reliability -- it actually seems to have the opposite effect.
