One of Volkswagen’s solutions to the growing need for EV charging is a mobile EV charging solution. The press release below explains it in more detail, but basically, it’s an EV charging station that can be moved from location to location fairly easily, can be connected to the grid or operate independently from it, and has up to 360 kWh charging capacity. The latter means an 80% charge (0–80%) in ~17 minutes.
We’ve now had a 2015 BMW i3 REx for 6 months. We’re a family of four. The young ones are 2 years old and 4 years old, so don’t go to school. We have no other car in the household, but I work from home and my wife is a full-time (+ overtime) mom. This is leadership … almost. Well, sort of. It’s getting there. North Vancouver, which is a city … just north of Vancouver, is showing true EV charging leadership, or something approaching that kind of true leadership. It’s getting there.
If the BMW 3 Series seems to be in trouble in the US due to the Tesla Model 3, it appears it might have a much bigger problem in China. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range is already at the top of the price range of a BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and lower-trim options should eventually arrive to compete with those models’ lower-trim options.
Before the modern electric car era, if you needed a car and wanted something fuel efficient, your best options were generally Toyotas and Hondas, the two companies that led on hybrids and fuel-efficient non-hybrids. There are generations of drivers who still love Toyota and Honda as a result of those cars and these two companies’ reputations for reliability, fuel efficiency, and high quality for the money. But Tesla is now setting a much higher bar, and consumers are responding.
