Measuring and tracking the energy efficiency of its commercial buildings is now included in a formal benchmarking program that has been launched by the City of Seattle.

But a waste-to-energy resource that many are missing is the anaerobic digestion of mixed organic waste, such as food and yard waste, a technology that was introduce in Europe as far back as the 1930s. What are we missing here in the United States? This calls for putting some numbers to work.

Now Cui and his team of researchers have calculated a way to alternate the flow of river water and salty seawater through a battery to produce electricity that can be used for charging purposes. It might also be possible this same process can be reversed to remove salt from seawater to produce drinking water.
