Volt owners in Los Angeles got a sneak peek of the 2016 Chevy Volt at an event last week. Of course, this is a teaser leading up to its full unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show in January. We don’t have much, but from the little bit I can see, I like it. Also, some practical updates have been mentioned that look to make the Volt and even better buy. (Reportedly, it’s already the best buy out there among hybrids and electric vehicles.)

For some easy comparison, here are some shots of the current Volt:

At a first glance, I like the sharper, sportier look of the 2016 Volt, and I also love that blue, but I should probably just hold my tongue until I actually see the full car.

Despite respecting what GM did to create to original Volt, I have never really liked how it looked. I’m thinking that my mind may change with the 2016 model. We’ll see.

On a more practical level, reportedly, the 2016 Chevy Volt will have 5 seats instead of the current version’s 4. This has been a top request of Volt owners from what I’ve seen on the GM Volt Forum, which I monitor very closely. That’s great news if it’s true!

Also, owners will be able to input a specific home charging location. “This will let owners designate a set of charging behavior for regular charging at home, including a level of 8 or 12 Amps, a delayed start time to take advantage of special overnight rates, a departure time for each day of the week, and other specifics,” John Voelker writes.

GM noted that it has studied the Volt more than any other car in its history, and it has made a number of other minor adjustments as a result of polls and surveys. Of course, with “the happiest drivers on the planet,” GM surely had it quite easy.
