What If Obama Had Done it?

For years, many Republicans falsely claimed that Obama was not born in the US (and thus wasn’t our legitimate president), that he’s Muslim (he’s actually Christian), that he hates America (so obviously absurd that the claim baffles the mind), etc., etc. All the while, Obama maintained his composure and was “presidential” for his entire 8 years as president. Try to imagine for a minute if he wasn’t. And try to imagine he had serious conflicts of interest and strong ties to anti-democratic, anti-USA countries. What would the haters have been yelling if he crossed the lines Trump has crossed?

Imagine for a moment a few things…

Imagine that longtime Russian President and former KGB head Vladimir Putin helped get Obama elected, according to all of the USA’s federal intelligence agencies, and reportedly had a ton of dirt on Obama, enough to blackmail Obama. Imagine Obama only said nice things about Putin, never anything negative even in the weirdest of circumstances. Again, we’re talking about this guy:

Imagine Fox‘s Bill O’Reilly was interviewing Obama for a Super Bowl halftime chat, was trying to get Obama to condemn Putin’s horrendous reputation, and Obama simply responded, “There are a lot of killers, there are a lot of killers. What, you think our country’s so innocent?”

Imagine Obama had super sketchy business deals with top Russian oligarchs. This kind of thing:

Imagine Obama chose one of the people at the center of his own Russian business deals to be US Secretary of Commerce. Crony capitalism?

Imagine Obama chose the head of one of the largest oil companies in the world (ExxonMobil) — who also has huge connections to Russia — to be US Secretary of State.

Imagine Obama’s attorney general met with the Russian ambassador during the campaign season and was a key surrogate for Obama during the campaign but later said under oath that he didn’t meet with any Russians during the campaign. Imagine he got caught and apologized but didn’t resign.

Imagine Obama claimed George W. Bush was behind leaks about the Obama administration, that Bush tapped Obama’s phones, and that Bush was basically involved in a big conspiracy to frame Obama … based on statements he heard on a CleanTechnica podcast or a report in The Onion. You know, this kind of thing:

Imagine Obama’s Secretary of Transportation immediately pulled this kind of nonsense on Texas.

Imagine Obama called gravity a hoax created by and for the Chinese to make US manufacturing noncompetitive.

Imagine Obama spent the first weeks of his presidency (including his administration’s first press conference) arguing that his inauguration crowd was the largest in history and larger than Bush’s even though it was demonstrably much smaller.

Imagine Obama was costing the US government millions of dollars by using his private luxury hotels as White House alternatives, something that was clearly boosting Obama’s business.

Imagine an Obama Corporation business trip Obama’s son took to Uruguay in the first month of Obama’s presidency cost the United States $97,830 in hotel bills.

Imagine Obama was costing the government as much in one month for travel and hotels (largely at his own company’s hotels) as Bush cost the government in one year.

Imagine Obama was lashing out on Twitter practically every day criticizing Meryl Streep, Broadway actors, and just about every large mainstream media outlet.

Imagine Obama kept claiming the mainstream media was fake news and “the enemy of the American people” … as it was covering the potential for Russian corruption in the Obama campaign and administration.

Imagine Obama was costing the US government millions of dollars a month so his (foreign-born model) wife (his 3rd wife, by the way) and US secret service could live at Obama’s luxury hotel in New York City instead of the White House.

Imagine if Obama claimed there were 3 million illegal votes cast in the election where he just lost by ~3 million votes (in the popular vote — despite winning the electoral college vote) … and that these supposedly 3 million illegal votes were basically all cast for his opponent, not him. Seriously, imagine that….

Imagine Obama put billionaire buddies at the head of several key US government departments, as well as people who had specifically said they would eliminate or make ineffective those departments.

Imagine if Obama stripped mention of fossil fuels from the White House website.

Imagine if Obama had attacked our judicial system and specific judges.

Imagine Bush had blocked some solar farms for fear of some great harm they’d do to the water supply of the neighboring conservative communities, and then Obama immediately unblocked them once he took office.

Imagine Obama picked Elon Musk to be Secretary of Energy, Lyndon Rive to be Secretary of State, and Peter Rive to be Secretary of Commerce. (Frankly, I can’t think of examples that can even compare to Trump’s choices.)

Seriously, try to imagine all of these things had been Obama instead of Trump. Do you think anyone would have bothered pretending for 5 years or whatever that Obama wasn’t American? No, there would have been plenty of real corruption, insanity, and anti-American nonsense for them to focus on.
