8minutenergy Renewables Expands Operations Into Texas
8minutenergy Renewables, the self-proclaimed leading independent US solar developer, announced this week that it is expanding its operations into Texas, and is aiming to drive the development of 2 GW of utility-scale solar PV projects.
The California-based utility-scale solar developer announced this week at the Gulf Coast Power Association Fall Conference in Austin, Texas, that it would be expanding its operations into Texas immediately. Specifically, the company is targeting over 2 GW of utility-scale solar projects in the state. 8minutenergy already has nearly 5.5 GW of solar under development in North America, and has been awarded a further 1.5 GW in power purchase agreements.
“We captured nearly 15% market share in California, which is one of the toughest solar markets in the world. We are excited to replicate our proven model and execution-oriented approach in Texas,” explained Martin Hermann, 8minutenergy’s CEO and founder. “We believe in partnership, transparency, and innovation, which are traits that are already proving beneficial in our early stage project development achievements across the Lone Star State.”
In addition to an impressive array of projects in development, 8minutenergy — named for the 8 minutes it takes sunlight to travel from the sun to the Earth’s surface — is also building the world’s (currently) largest solar PV farm, the 800 MW Mount Signal project in California.
“At 8minutenergy, we have a success rate that is significantly greater than the industry average because of our process-driven method,” added 8minutenergy’s President, Tom Buttgenbach. “We know how to optimize and design a project from the start, and we manage it all from transmission to operations and maintenance. We believe this approach will resonate in Texas where utilities and corporations are looking for pure-play solar partners that can aggressively compete with alternative forms of energy.”
