Alberta is Growing Renewables! – Alberta has just announced an additional 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030 to achieve the climate plan goals outlined last year. This announcement includes, “a firm target of 30 percent of electricity used in the province coming from renewable sources such as wind, hydro and solar,” as reported in Reuters. The renewables target is based on the amount of energy used– Alberta is Canada’s biggest greenhouse gas polluter– rather than the province’s energy capacity.
