Faraday Future Names Peter Savagian, Head GM EV1 Engineer, As New Powertrain Head
Keeping in line with its other high-profile hires as of late, the electric vehicle startup Faraday Future has hired the former Chief Engineer for the infamous General Motors EV1 project, Peter Savagian, according to recent reports.
The former EV1 Chief Engineer has reportedly been hired by the somewhat shadowy Chinese-money-backed startup to serve as its Vice President of Engineering.
Using his own words (obtained from Savagian’s LinkedIn profile), the new role at Faraday Future is: “Lead engineering operations for powertrain, battery and related high voltage systems in a fast moving, forward looking business that is centered on 100% electric, fully connected, premium vehicles.”
The revelation of the new hire was actually made through an announcement by Savagian on LinkedIn. Previously, Savagian had worked at General Motors for around 18 years, first joining the company all the way back in August 1998. That’s when he first took the role of Chief Engineer on the EV1 project, before becoming the company’s “General Director, Electric Drive Systems and New Products Development.”
Autoblog provides more, detailing important recent hires by Faraday Future: “Faraday Future has made big-name hires something of a pattern this year. In May, the company lured Tesla’s vice president of regulatory affairs and deputy general counsel, James Chen, as its new head lawyer and VP of government relations. Barely a few weeks later, the company snagged former Ferrari exec Marco Mattiaci. And while not a hire, the company recently announced a partnership with Formula E’s Dragon Racing.”
Interesting news. More news to confirm that the company seems to be a serious one… but we are certainly waiting on a solid product we can drive before we get too excited.
