Sunrun & Energy Supplier Constellation Partner For Residential Solar PV Program In New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, & Maryland
The US-based retail electricity supplier Constellation is partnering with the noted residential solar photovoltaic system leasing company Sunrun to bring new options to homeowners in 4 populous northeastern states, according to recent reports.
The partnership will see Constellation customers in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts, who own homes, given the opportunity to utilize Sunrun’s residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The upside of the partnership, for those partaking of the service, is that they’ll be able to get a solar PV system installed on their home without the same sort of high upfront costs associated with a self-purchase of a solar PV system. This, of course, will allow many that are otherwise financially unable to “go solar” to do so.
The partnership will (generally) see Sunrun cover the upfront installation costs, the insurance of the system, the maintenance, the monitoring, etc — allowing customers to do essentially nothing other than use the electricity generated, thereby cutting their carbon footprint, and often their electricity bills as well. Sunrun also guarantees the performance of the solar PV system for a period of 20 years.
Sunrun’s customers in turn then purchase the electricity generated by the system — possibly in addition to further electricity from the grid, if customer needs are high.
The requirements for the service are that you own the home, that your rooftop is suitable (sun exposure, well-maintained, etc.), and that you spend roughly $100 a month on electricity.
