With over 170 National Drive Electric Week events already planned in 165 cities, this is again a record-large National Drive Electric Week, breaking last year’s record.

2014-MontclairBut the organizers aren’t being snobby, prejudiced nationalists about it — some of the events are in Canada and Hong Kong!

From September 12–20, a couple of the many notable ride & drive organizers include an oil-field worker and vegan race car driver. I think you can guess who the latter is, and if you’re a longtime and obsessive CleanTechnica reader, you may remember that I was an initial guest on oil-worker John Gallagher’s podcast. He will be hosting the first National Drive Electric Week event in Oklahoma.

Of course, our good friend Brian Kent will be involved in the midst of his 48-day whirlwind journey in his Nissan LEAF. He’ll be going through Jeffersontown, Kentucky, at that time.

“Vegan hippy chick” race car driver Leilani Münter will be speaking at an event in Los Angeles, where these notables have been invited: Mayor Eric Garcetti, California state Senator Kevin de Leon, director Chris Paine (“Revenge of the Electric Car”), Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune, and actress/environmentalist Alexandra Paul (“Bay Watch”).

In Mead, Washington, an EV rally will climb Mt Spokane — ascending 4,000 feet before enjoying wonderful regenerative braking on the way down.

In San Antonio, Texas, a variety of events will take place, including an “energy lab” for kids (and interested adults, of course) and a panel about driving on sunshine, one of my favorite topics.

A National Drive Electric Week in Woodland Hills, California, organized for the second-consecutive year by a high schooler is expected to include actor Ed Begley, Jr., which Plug In America says “has been driving an EV on sunshine by charging it with solar-generated electricity longer than anyone else.”

About that special Hong Kong event — it actually looks like the one I’d most want to attend. It includes “a ‘treasure hunt’ with points awarded for most public chargers used, test-drives given and the like.”

No matter which event you attend, or if you can’t attend any, we should all give a huge thanks to chief organizers/promoters Plug In America, the Sierra Club, and the Electric Auto Association.

Learn more and search out events in your area on the National Drive Electric Week site.
