Recent reports have revealed that the Tesla Model S will soon be available (unofficially from the looks of it) in the Malaysian markets — marking the first time that the lauded electric vehicles will be available there.

Amongst other things, Teslas (P85D and 70D) will apparently be leased only to government-linked companies, via the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (which is the company importing the cars). The leases in question will apparently be two-year ones, with the option to purchase the vehicles outright at the end of the lease.

The reported purpose behind the initiative is to familiarize government officials and “important” people with the benefits of electric cars — potentially creating future allies in electric car support.
