One of the largest solar energy manufacturers in the world, Yingli Green Energy (aka Yingli Solar), recently achieved a new milestone in its impressive growth over recent years. The company announced that it has now delivered more than 13 gigawatts (GW) worth of cumulative global solar photovoltaic (PV) panel deliveries to date, as of the end of Q1 2015.

As it stands, the company’s deliveries are now capable of producing roughly 16 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of solar electricity each year — which means that the residential electricity needs of the megapolis of Beijing could be nearly met by Yingli Solar’s deliveries to date (theoretically), based on 2014’s electricity usage figures.

These 13 GW of solar panel deliveries correspond to, approximately, the offset of around 9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year (somewhere around the equivalent of taking 1.7 million cars off the road).

“We are incredibly proud of reaching this historic milestone, which is a testament to both our innovative, high quality solar products and to our dedicated pursuit of Yingli’s mission to bring green energy to all,” stated Mr Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy. “Together with our partners, we have made solar power — and the significant environmental and economic benefits it provides — accessible to communities in nearly every corner of the world.”

Good news. But not surprising. Yingli’s growth and expansion over the last few years has been a quite observable — I’m expecting to see the company do quite well for the forseeable future… despite its horrible stock price at the moment.
