Cool Chart of the Week: Solar Socket Parity In California, Australia, Germany, Italy, & Netherlands

I forget now how I ran across this chart, but it’s a nice one. It shows that residential solar PV power hit socket parity (aka grid parity) in California, Germany, Australia, Italy, and the Netherlands in 2013.

Of course, these are based on averages, including average solar PV system prices and average retail electricity prices (excluding fixed charges). In California, there’s also the issue of tiered tariffs.

“In 2013, socket parity was reached in Australia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and California, and is progressively being reached in other countries. It does not happen at the same time globally, due to large differences in generation costs of PV, which depend on local PV system prices, resource conditions, financing arrangements, as well as different prices for grid electricity,” the International Energy Agency (IEA), the source of this chart, writes.
