Lightsource Putting £125 Million Into UK Rooftop Solar Market For 2015
Lightsource — arguably the top solar energy company in the UK — just announced that it will be investing more than £125 million (~$193 million) into the UK rooftop solar market in 2015.
This investment is intended to aid the company in reaching its goal of possessing 1 gigawatt (GW) of operational assets — which looks set to be achieved by the end of March.
The investment numbers set for this year are more or less in line with the previous years — as the company has actually deployed ~£1.5 billion over the last 4 years.
This upcoming £125 million in investment will be allocated specifically in the UK to rooftop solar projects — with the company looking to develop 120 megawatts (MW) of new installations on residential buildings, commercial buildings, schools, etc.
Nick Boyle, CEO at Lightsource, said: “Over the last few months, Lightsource has worked persistently to address the barriers to rooftop solar deployment. The biggest breakthrough has been our midscale solar power purchase agreement (PPA) which is praised for its simplicity by end users and installers alike. This has enabled a significant pipeline to emerge and therefore we are able to affirm our commitment of £125 million, allocated specifically towards rooftop solar projects.”
“Now that we have allocated the funds, relationships with installers will be key in realising our ambition. Therefore, we are keen to seek out these partnerships and work with local supply chains. 30 installer firms have already signed up with us and I would like to see that double in the next couple of months.”
In relation to these announcements, the company is inviting a number of notable solar PV installers in the region to a special drinks reception at Ecobuild on Tuesday March 3rd at 5:30 pm. The reception is reportedly intended to give installers the opportunity to meet with the company’s CEO, Nick Boyle, as well as other senior company figures, in order discuss partnership opportunities, agreements, project funding, etc.
