Yesterday, The Oatmeal creator Matthew Inman made a plea to Elon Musk to help build a museum dedicated to Nikola Tesla…and this morning, Musk responded. In a tweet sent this morning at 6 AM, Musk told Inman  (via Tweet) that he “…would be happy to help.” Woot!

Last year Inman launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money to preserve Tesla’s original New York City laboratory, and eventually turn it into a museum. Alas, the more than $1 million raised by the Kickstarter was enough to buy and preserve the property, but not nearly enough to turn it into a museum. That’s why Inman wrote a side-splitting review of the Tesla Model S, calling it (among other things) his “Electric CruiseBeast,” prior to making a plea to Elon to help complete this museum he feels Nikola Tesla deserves.

It’s the latest Internet Crusade for Inman, who has been in the spotlight a number of times for his online comic activism, taking on shady lawyers and even Columbus Day in an often public way. This crusade is far more positive though, and will (hopefully) result in the namesake of Tesla Motors finally getting the museum and recognition he deserves.

How Musk intends to help is anybody’s guess, though cold hard cash seems the most likely avenue of approach. In return, maybe Elon can get Tesla Motors gets a couple of Superchargers on site, or even a Model S display. Seems appropriate to me.

True, but not so much in the US, where perhaps more benefit has come of Tesla’s work than anywhere else in the world.
