Affordable, solar-powered air conditioning may soon become something that is far more common, thanks to a new partnership between SolarCity and one of the largest heating and air-conditioning solutions corporations in the world — Carrier.

The goal of the partnership is to make high-efficiency, solar-powered climate control systems more accessible and affordable. A worthwhile goal considering that a large percentage of energy use is devoted to environmental cooling in warm climates.

The press release from SolarCity provides more:

SolarCity, the nation’s largest full-service solar power provider, will provide Carrier customers the option to lower their energy costs by powering their heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems with solar electricity that costs less than utility power rates. The cost savings that customers realize by using solar power and more efficient HVAC help to offset the costs of switching to a cleaner, more comfortable indoor air solution.

Furthermore, customers can benefit from a special offer from the two companies beginning today. Homeowners can receive a $1,000 rebate on Carrier equipment from participating Carrier dealers by going solar with SolarCity. The rebate can be applied to furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, packaged units, ductless systems or entire system upgrades, upon operation of the homeowner’s SolarCity system.

For those interested in the rebate, you can find a Carrier dealer close to you here.

Speaking of SolarCity…. The fast-growing solar energy company just recently reported that it had achieved a record amount of bookings in the 1st quarter of 2014, 136 MW worth of bookings to be exact.

According to recent reports, the company’s expectations are that the impressive growth will continue for years, with growth expectations for 2015 as high as 81% year-over-year at the midpoint.
