Thanks to Italian site GreenStart, I’ve got some reliable March electric car registration numbers to share. Unfortunately, as with France, I have one important number missing. GreenStart collects pure-electric car registrations, but not plug-in hybrid numbers. I was able to get plug-in hybrid numbers last month, but the site where I found them didn’t share them this month. Luckily, the only plug-in hybrid that seems to be selling in Italy is the Volvo V60 PHEV (as far as I can tell).

With that long disclaimer out of the way, as you can see above, the Italian market is still quite small and simple. It’s led by the Nissan LEAF, followed by the Renault Zoe, and apparently now the BMW i3. Though, for the year to date, the Smart Electric Drive is still holding onto #3. The Tesla Model S was #4 in March and is currently tied for #4 with the BMW i3 for the year to date.
