Jay Z & His Tesla Model S

April 26th, 2014 by

Rapper and producer Jay Z has added a black-on-black Tesla Model S to his stable of awesome automobiles. It’s not the story of the year, I’ll grant you, but it definitely indicates the star power the Tesla commands.

Of course not every car brand with wealthy or famous owners ends up doing well. Leonardo DiCaprio was one of the first people in line for the Fisker Karma, and Justin Bieber’s manager bought the pop star a chrome-wrapped Karma for his 18th birthday. We all know how that story ended, and Fisker may drop the whole green hybrid theme entirely just to stay alive.

While Jay Z rolling around in a double-black Tesla is no indication of a brand’s success, it certainly promotes the Model S as an aspirational vehicle. If electric vehicles are really going to break the mold for automobiles, people have to want one. Tesla has done a good job of getting itself noticed without spending a dime on marketing, and the word is obviously out. By the way, it was Jay Z’s wife, Beyonce, who snapped this timely photo of the rapper admiring his ride.

Jay Z has got 99 problems, but pollution ain’t one.

Just checked and they have 17 Grammys (each), and have sold 10s of millions of albums, many multi-plaltinum, (also *each*), but yes, she is probably more “famous”.

    • Ronald Brakels

Well, of course Beyonce is more famous! She was was in Goldmember! It will be a long time before the world forgets that movie.

  • Ronald Brakels

Oh right, Beyonce’s spouse. You should have said that in the first paragraph so us internationals would know you were talking about someone important. The Dutch will never forget her brilliant performance as Austin Power’s evil henchwoman in the tragedy Goldmember.

    • Wayne Williamson

Ron, its ok, I didn’t know who he was either and I’m from the US and love music. Probably my age showing;-)

    • Wow, didn’t realize Beyonce was more famous than Jay Z until I read this… and I live in Europe. Now it’s obvious, but since I was very into rap when Jay Z popped onto the scene (and perhaps bcs I really dislike his music), I think of him as “bigger.”

      • No way

I only really know Jay-Z as a one hit wonder with his song “Hard knock life”. I’ve heard some about him still doing things but Beyonce on the other hand…. 🙂

        • Ronald Brakels

Yeah, I was going to make a crack about how I loved that song in Little Orphan Annie, but then I looked it up and saw he’d beat me to that joke already.

      • Bob_Wallace

I know him as someone who occasionally shows up in pictures with PBO.

He’s someone in entertainment, is he not? Sort of the self-promotion personality part?
