http://citibikenyc.com/Beyond all other experiences of the Big Apple, the positively stunning images I see when I think about it is the vision of bicycles as they weave in and out of traffic, bike lanes, and any tiny space available. Forget the Olympics — watch the prowess of the New York City bicyclist. It is beautiful activity.

As TreeHugger prods us to question: “Where do Citi Bikers ride? When do they ride? How far do they go? Which stations are most popular? What days of the week are most rides taken on?”

If you are not in NYC — watch the choreographed dance of Citi bicycles in the last days of September lucidly exposed below. Enjoy this video of Citi Bike Trips and catch the adaptable flow of the bicycles through this diverse city. The map also interestingly shows transit delays.

If you are in New York, but you do not feel up to the challenge initially, you can get comfortable riding in the big city by attending a “Citi Bike Street Skills class for tips, tricks, and a free 24-hour pass.”

If you want more than the video, you can also take a look at Oliver O’Brien’s “5.5 Million Journeys at NYC Bike Share” article. It illustrates many levels of activity in different areas at different times (weekend, peak, etc):

There’s also I Quant NY and its quantitative, mapped analysis of Citi Bike data.

Further enjoy the above maps and details considering fluctuations at I Quant NY.

And there’s also the Citi Bike data page, which includes its own charts. (Click the symbol of 4 arrows in the top-right corner to enlarge.)

TreeHugger further adds some straight numbers:

“The cumulative total number of miles traveled by Citi Bike riders is now on its way to reaching 13 million miles! A very impressive number, especially considering that many Citi Bike users probably would not be biking otherwise because they would lose the convenience of just picking up a bike at a station and dropping it at another and then taking the subway and so on; this great flexibility is unfortunately not present when you have your own bike that you need to either keep with you or keep somewhere safe.”

In NYC? Once you grow weary of the indoors and computer screens, find some more comfort and freedom with Citi Bike at one of its many locations, and unfold the outdoors.
