Solar Resource Mapping For The Middle East (CT Exclusive Video)

Continuing my return to Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week*, here’s another video I’ve been stingily holding on to. Basically, folks from Masdar Institute, IRENA, and other organizations are working on some solar resource mapping for countries in the Middle East (initially, for the UAE; now, for Saudi Arabia). Some initial solar resource mapping has been done for countries around the world by institutes in the US (like NREL) and Europe, but that mapping didn’t perfectly account for the unique desert conditions of the Middle East. The solar resource mapping underway currently, discussed a bit in the video, is resulting in estimates of solar potential that are much closer to reality.

Just watch the video. It doesn’t bite.

*My trip to Abu Dhabi for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week was covered my Masdar. That said, I was not required to write about or film anything and I’ve only covered stories that I found especially interesting.
