In a move that should make the process of donating to charity simpler, faster, and virtually effortless, a new service enables automatic micro-donations, based on when and where you spend your money.
Changefolio allows users to sync their bank accounts and set up customizable donation rules, in order to give a bit to charity (a micro-donation) every time they spend money within certain donation categories. By simplifying the charitable giving process, and linking donations to what users spend their money on, this service offers a seamless method of supporting nonprofits without having to make any extra effort.

“Changefolio is a donation service that gives you the ability to set up ongoing donations connected to your everyday transactions. Changefolio syncs with your bank and categorizes your purchases. You set up donation rules for one or more categories, and then spend as usual. Each time you make a purchase in a donation category, you make a micro-donation based on your customized rules. We send you updates, help you set and manage donation limits, and display your donation history on your personal homepage.
Changefolio donation rules are fully customizable. Our users give in as many different ways as there are budgets, lifestyles, and philanthropic perspectives. People often create donations that are closely linked to their spending, like donating 5% of all grocery purchases to a local soup kitchen. In this example, if you spend $100 at the grocery store, you make a $5 donation automatically.”
Users also specify what their weekly charity donation limits are, so there aren’t any huge financial surprises at the end of the week, and have the opportunity to cancel pending donations before they are made every week, in case of financial hardship or other circumstances.
The service is said to be secure, as it connects to your bank through Intuit’s secure authentication system, and Changefolio doesn’t store any of the user’s login authentication. Donations to 501(c)3 charitable organizations (which can sign up here) are tax-deductible, and users receive an electronic receipt for tracking their donations.
