Honda has recently added wind energy to its power mix at their Ohio-based US manufacturing plant, while seeking to boost its sustainability agenda.

Business Green notes the new on-site wind farm will provide 10% of the Russells Point plant with cleaner electricity.

Chip in a few dollars a month to help support independent cleantech coverage that helps to accelerate the cleantech revolution!

Last year we reported that Juhl Wind of Pipestone, Minnesota would operate and install the two turbines on site at an initial cost of $8 million. Honda would agree to purchase the electricity generated from the wind farm.

Honda has been recently adding clean tech projects, as it seeks to slash 30% of its year 2000 carbon emission levels by 2020. In November, they announced plans to install 70,000 solar panels at its test course facility in Sakura, Japan, and sell the excess electricity back on the grid.

Honda is adding its self to the ever-growing list of large corporations who are moving towards renewable energy as a way to boost its bottom line. Companies including Walmart, IKEA, see this shift as both a cost cutting measure, but also a smart business move to attract environmentally conscious customers.

With the Japanese car manufacturer on board, expect the corporate sustainability trend to grow further in 2014.
