Vestas Announces 400 MW Orders For US And UK
Vestas Wind announced on Wednesday and Thursday respectively that they had been awarded orders for 350 MW in the US and another 50 MW for an offshore UK project, taking the company’s total installed capacity well over the 50 GW mark.
On Wednesday Vestas announced that Enel Green Power North America had placed an order for 350 MW, which will see the company supply 75 V100-2.0 MW turbines for the 150 MW Origin wind power plant in Oklahoma as well as an additional firm 200 MW which could increase to 636 MW worth of 2 MW turbines during 2014.
“We’re thankful to work again with a major global company like Enel which has a proven track record of building successful wind-energy projects in this country,” said Chris Brown, President of Vestas’ sales and service division in the United States and Canada. “Our two-megawatt platform features turbines that are reliable, proven workhorses with a very competitive cost of energy. We are confident the V100-2.0 MW turbines will deliver a positive return on investment for Enel.”

Across the pond, Vestas announced that they would be providing 15 V112-3.3 MW offshore turbines for the Kentish Flats Extension off the coast of the UK, which will total 50 MW and include supply, installation, and commissioning of the wind turbines in addition to a five-year AOM 5000 service agreement.
“We are pleased to have confirmed Vestas for turbine supply to Vattenfall’ s Kentish Flats Extension, particularly as Vestas and Vattenfall will work closely to maximise, where we can, contracting with the local supply chain in Kent for this significant investment,” said Ole Bigum Nielsen, Head of Project Execution at Vattenfall, UK.
Located approximately 10 kilometres off the Kent coast, the Kentish Flats Extension will begin in mid-2015, and upon final completion the entire farm will be capable of generating between 350,000 MWh and just over 430,000 MWh of clean electricity every year, enough to successfully supply the total electricity needed to support between 82,000 to 96,000 UK households.
