A total of 233 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects have been awarded to a consortium of Yingli Green Energy, Sinohydro Corporation Limited, and Hydrochina Corporation, to be built in Algeria under development by Shariket el Kahraba wa el Taket el Moutadiadida, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sonelgaz, which is in charge of electricity and natural gas distribution in Algeria.

The announcement comes mere days after the grid-connection of the hybrid PV and hydro Longyangxia Dam project in the Chinese Qinghai Province, at which point Yingli Green Energy offered congratulations to all involved, having provided 15 MW of its YGE series PV modules for the project.

“We are very pleased to win these projects, and thank our Consortium partners for all their great efforts,” said Mr. Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy. “The cooperation with Sinohydro and Hydrochina marks a new approach to PV project development in China, and we’re excited to be at the forefront of this initiative. We look forward to working together with even more partners to discover new business development methods.”

“Given its competitive strength and reliable solution among other competitors, the Consortium won the largest portion of our whole program,” added Mr. Chahar Boulakhras, Chairman of SKTM. ‘Those projects will help us to relieve the pressure of power supply inAlgeria to some extent after being put into operation. We are looking forward to further strengthening the cooperation with Yingli in the future.”

The three-party consortium was founded in October of 2013 to bid on the Algerian projects, which total 318 MW across four projects. Winning 233 MW of the total is a big score for Yingli, and will see the Consortium designing and constructing the projects, which will begin in January of 2014.
