Following up on my first two articles from my recent trip to Las Vegas — which covered ABB’s huge solar push and featured an exclusive interview with ABB solar head Maxine Ghavi — here’s my second recorded interview with Maxine, which was conducted at the site of an ABB* solar power plant in Nevada:

With an existing global presence, ABB looks ripe for some serious solar market growth in just about any hot solar market (there are several now). With its diverse power and automation portfolio, it also looks particularly well-positioned for what looks to become a fast-growing microgrid market. Last year, we actually covered an innovative microgrid project from ABB and General Motors that used Chevy Volt batteries in a modular microgrid energy storage system. I expect much more of that as the EV market heats up.

It was recently announced that ABB would be powering Canada’s largest solar power plant. This was the first ABB solar news we’d noticed and covered in a while, but my impression is that we’ll be seeing a lot more along these lines from the Swiss company in the coming years.

*Full disclosure: My trip to Las Vegas was supported by ABB. Also, I occasionally write for ABB Conversations. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t publish anything on CleanTechnica that I didn’t think was very interesting and/or useful, and this article and included video were not things that ABB requested I create or publish.
