A professional illustrator living in Israel, 50-year old Joseph Tayyar, saw a Mitsubishi box truck and wondered what it might be like to build it into a luxurious, off-grid motor home. The end result is a $225,000 realization of a dream that makes clever use of wood and efficient solar power a work of art. You can check it out below, in an article that was originally published on one of our sister sites, Gas 2.

Recycled Hawtness: Israeli Man Turns Box Truck into Kickass RV (via Gas 2.0)

50 year old Joseph Tayyar is not like the rest of us. You and I look at those 35′ long UHaul moving trucks and think, “I could fit my whole house in there.” Tayyar looks at them and thinks, “I could fit my whole house in there.” It’s a subtle…

what an excellent idea, beautiful inside

  • SirSparks

Mine is only bout 28ft but it cost me only about $15,000 total incl box truck. Also with 100% PV power (in winter) and solar hotwater.

I’m wondering the same thing as arne-nl. Is the whole thing electric or do the solar panels take care of everything inside and he still needs gas or diesel for the motor or does it have a hybrid motor?

    • http://electrobatics.wordpress.com/ arne-nl

My fear is that it simply has the original, polluting diesel. But hey, put a handful of panels on the roof and your ‘green’ and get your 15 minutes of fame on CleanTechnica >:)

That is one of the cleanest diesels in the world, and the Mitsubishi Fuso has won several green tech awards because of it. Not as bad as you think, in other words. :)

If’s solar powered, does that mean it is an electric truck?

    • http://www.insteading.com/ Jo Borras

No, the truck is diesel. The solar panels provide off-grid power and heat.
