As I shared less than one week ago, ABB is making a strong solar power push that it is looking to sustain in the long term. The company is well aware that solar power has a very bright future, and that the industry is still very young. After the presentation given to the press by Maxine Ghavi, the global head of ABB’s Solar Industry Segment Initiative, I got to sit down with Maxine for quite awhile and ask her several follow-up questions. The following are 8 videos from that chat. Enjoy!

The first video is a short introduction, providing a bit of perspective on ABB’s historical role in solar and one reason why it’s now becoming a more visible player in this realm:

Next, Maxine talks a bit about how her Silicon Valley roots and solar’s nascent stage of development are influencing the solar initiative, as well as how ABB’s corporate culture and many specialized experts are contributing:

In this third video, we dig in a bit more to find out the specific markets ABB is targeting and some of the specific ABB business units that are involved in offering solar solutions to the world:

In this fourth video, I just decided to have a little fun and ask a question that follows up on an interview I conducted with GE’s head of renewable energy. Check it out:

In the fifth video, I ask a bit more about ABB’s move into the inverter space and learn a bit about that space from Maxine:

In the sixth video, I give Maxine a bit of a lob, asking her if she sees anyone else offering the kinds of integrated solar packages ABB can offer. I was genuinely curious about this, and figured that I wouldn’t get a straight answer if the answer was “yes.” But the general answer was a “no.” Check out the video for a more specific answer:

The seventh and final video is another fun question, a question I’m thinking I’ll make it a routine to ask in future interviews with cleantech leaders:

Isn’t she lovely? A very lovable leader for a lovable industry. Makes me love my job. 😀

In closing, for Maxine, here’s the song that so wonderfully captures the story of the energy industry today:

*Full disclosure: my trip to Las Vegas was supported by ABB. Nonetheless, ABB did not request any particular type of coverage and did not request that we cover any specific points.
