Tesla Motors Snags Another Celebrity — Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Gets A Model S (+ Fun Story)
Yet another celebrity has been unable to resist the great appeal of the Tesla Model S — Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak recently tweeted about his purchase after picking his vehicle up at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.
The Silicon Valley heavyweight has apparently been interested in getting one for quite some time — and has even, apparently, been sending large numbers of articles about the Model S to his wife, hoping that she’d get the hint. :\
Earlier this year, in an interview with ValueWalk, Wozniak even stated: “Every day, I sent her articles about the Model S consistently. I have for a couple of years.” Well, after all the effort, it looks like he’s finally gotten what he wanted. 🙂
GreenCarReports provides some background on the relationship between Apple and Tesla:
Woz’s Model S ownership isn’t the only connection between Tesla Motors and Apple. George Blankenship — the man responsible for the signature look of Apple Stores — left Apple and is now Tesla’s vice president of sales and ownership experience.
Blankenship brought the retail model to Tesla, creating the Tesla Stores that the company is using to challenge the model of conventional franchised dealerships–which has brought it legal battles in states like Texas. Tesla also recently hired Doug Field as its new VP of vehicle programs; he had been Apple’s VP of Mac hardware engineering.
In related news, a prominent German stock analyst recently made the interesting suggestion that Apple should purchase Tesla Motors — thereby securing for itself “a future-proof form of income, and giving Apple yet another platform to develop products for.” Not that something that would be that hard to imagine happening given the notable similarities between the two countries. Still, is jt really a possibility? Would Elon Musk really be willing to get into bed with Apple?
