Sarawak launched the massive Bakun dam not too long ago which creates a lake that sunk an area the size of Singapore, submerging huge tracts of valuable rain forest. They seem to value electricity more than mother nature, guess you’ll just have to lose it to treasure it…

Didn’t think it was a report. It is the company statement. It doesn’t include any information from any other source. I hope you at least got paid for this. At least the head line claims it is a company response. Been noticing a lot of press releases lately with very little editing going on. I hope this is not the first signs of the end of cleantechnica being a good information source.

This report leaves me uneasy. It seems to be based on PR by Sarawak Energy, without any effort to present the viewpoint of those displaced, or of biologists on diversity. Big hydro projects in rainforests are very disruptive; the roads built to the sites give access to illegal loggers and squatter farmers. Would you report on Brazil’s controversial Belo Monte dam in the same way?
