There is no bigger threat to the establishment than the threat of decentralized power... as in energy.

Maybe I'm just the eternal optimist but after many years of study, I came away from MIT and ICCF18 fairly convinced that LENR may save the day. The biggest obtacle IMHO, is the fact that LENR could lead to the availability of cheap, clean, compact, distributed power sources, making central power generation and distribution un-neccessary. See: links below.

I don't know. Perhaps China has figured out some tricks to getting a plant built faster. Well, not blazingly fast as it's taking them more like six years to build. But that's better than what the French companies have been able to do in Europe.

Interestingly, EDF sold off all their US nuclear business in the US a short time back. They stated that they didn't see anyway to make money in the US. I assume they sold at a loss, low enough for someone else to make some kind of a profit.

My guess is that the UK is going to have to build a new reactor or two just to relearn an old lesson. That's what we seem to be doing in the US. A few days back one of the top people at Vogtle said that they had made a mistake building a new reactor. That they didn't take into consideration the impact of cheap gas. And I suspect realized that he should have included wind and solar as well.

You think EDF diluting its stake is a good sign for the project? Will the already sceptical Brits accredit a Chinese nuclear company with anything more than financial involvement?

There's actually a new development. A Chinese company is getting into the action along with EDF.

Price guarantees are being discussed at somewhere above 14.5c/kWh. Plus loan guarantees.

Looks like the Brits are deciding that their electricity bills aren't high enough....

Meanwhile, the negotiations on the Hinkley nuclear power station drag on and on. The odds on it ever being approved are lengthening.
Note that all British electricity consumers alrteady have a choice between six major suppliers, as well as upstarts like Ecotricity..
