As always, another solid analysis. Well done, Giles. Your contributions are always a joy to read.

Given the fact that Australia is very sunny, you may expect that the developments there to offer a glimpse into the future of the rest of the world. Grid operators in not-so-sunny countries better take notice of what happens Down Under instead of lulling themselves into a belief that solar will never be competitive in northern countries.

Oh, and btw, talking of Australia and sun, don't forget that TODAY the world solar challenge starts!

The Queensland Liberal government under Campbell Newman is very right wing, as you can see from the massive subsidy to coal generation. Your fears about the possible political suppression of green thoughtcrime by Ergon are only too realistic.

The good news is that Queensland is an extremely sunny place, and Australian householders are sure to keep on installing solar panels to save money. There´s no financial crisis as in Spain to give cover to a policy of stopping solar in its tracks. Expect Australian right-wing politiicians to discover solar´s conservative credentials pretty soon.

I remember how much the electric company wanted to run power a half mile. If this electric company is running power lines throughout Australia I'm surprised RE+batteries is not already cheaper.
