Good move! Coal should go extinct and coal be kept in the ground for good.

Have a look at this, coal ash are a lot more toxic than nuclear waste.

It´s vital not to let sympathy for miners stop greens from going for the kill. Beyond a point we are now very close to, the financial unviability of the coal industry and the withdrawal of its social licence to operate reinforce each other. Coal must become a pariah industry like tobacco.

I should not discount the knock-on effect in China and India as well as Australia. Coal has influential enemies there too, at the grassroots and the boardroom. The example of America – still the cynosure of an advanced economy – will strengthen their hand.

Down trodden Dickens characters with coal soot on their face, a bad cough, a worn smelly coat, and not knowing where their next meal will be. Who would have thought this about the coal industry. Well they have had a good run of 300 years. They will not be missed!

Should not pick winner!
So don’t require CCS. Start GHC tax at $25/ton and and raise it $25/ton each quarter, until we get to $400/ton. Include all power, steel, concrete, mining (big 4) other joins in over 5 years. Would have to do math to include it into the gas tax. Then whatever method you want to use to reduce is up to you.

What you mean that coal wasn’t telling the truth about being clean?
