Besides which, what if the price bumps to $8000. What if there is no sales force, what if the car has worldwide distribution, multiple purchases per family, sales through motorcycle dealers, costco, sam’s club. The list of cost saving and distribution factors are open to possibility.

dude, a scam is a scam. Most are not dealt with kindly here.

It’s not clear that this is a scam. The guy might be on the up and up but he may have greatly over estimated what he could pull off. It might be, for example, that once this product was up and several hundred thousand were selling per year that he could hit his price point or at least get somewhat close. But there might not be a large enough market to pay for the initial higher price units.

I don’t think you’ll find that eeStore has received kind treatment here.

About point #2… Over 75% of Apple’s current revenue is from their mobile segments so the comparison of yearly/quarterly revenue is irrelevant without accounting for income specifically from competing products (i.e. PC vs Mac).

I would agree that this article feels quite biased and add that it has some logical errors. The authors figures are not accounting for the preorders which at ~35k are > 50% of first year target sales and the vehicle hasn’t even made it onto a lot yet.

Amen brother. I am in the same situation. I want a secondary vehicle where I can take trips every weekend if I choose to for a third of the gas my car takes and I won’t feel bad about putting miles on a $25,000 car anymore. I have a four wheeler that cost me more than $7000 so I won’t feel convicted about being a poor steward of my hard earned money while driving the Elio. I’m praying that this car becomes a reality!

Well I read that in case the elios is never manufactured you will be refunded your deposit. If you choose not to purchase it after and if it is manufactured no refund will be given.
I would like to mention the credit card payment option… everyone knows about credit cards and how they make the lender alot of money…. so elios is not like any other car company in anyway and that’s the point bri your nailing the obvious and using the greatness about it to make it look bad… If there is a will there is a way and let’s see about those numbers and watch what happens.. I’m gambling on elios plain and simple.. hope shields up live long and prosper. Pay less for gas too why not?

So….. the author was not impressed by the “virginity shield”. OK. I suppose then that he was impressed by the virginity buster Hummer. Gee, Imagine that. The Hummer, with one of the biggest and best dealerships in the world is out of business and the “virginity shield” will be built in the old virginity buster’s plant. Gee, imagine that, customer demand matters and this author doesn’t.

I am guessing they forgot to add the 29,000 reservations at $1,000 each, which totals $29,000,000 or 29 MILLION. Even if you figured only 20,000 of those reservations being the $1,000 down, it would STILL be $20,000,000 or 20 MILLION. THAT is just for the deposits. Seems to me that 3 Million is pocket change when compared to the reservation deposits. Don’t let others nay-say you and ruin your chance to prove them wrong. If you feel compelled to jump in, then jump in. If not, then watch the rest of us driving our Elios while you are waiting for months to purchase one later, when the price is bound to go up due to supply and demand. The $6800 base price for early reservations is merely a basic introductory price, for those idiots who don’t understand nice talk. If you wait, you had better be ready to be paying much more for en EMC auto. “EMC” reminds me of “E=MC2″, which could possibly mean that the 2nd generation of Elio may cost you double the original basic introductory price, so jumping in now and getting those feet wet, and sticking your tongue out at others as you drive by them in your Elio, is going to really show those “Negative Nellies” who was right. lol

You may have some good points but I think your article is no more trustworthy than you claim Elio to be simply because of your obvious bias against them. Using terms like “three wheeled virginity shield” does not add too your credibility as a journalist. I am curious about the elio but I have adopted a wait and see attitude. I would argue that purchasing a car based on whether or not it threatens my masculinity or decreases my chances with women shows no more intelligence than those who would give 1000 non refundable dollars to a company that technically only exists on paper. I think the Elio is an interesting possibility and could serve a real need for some people as a practical form of transportation instead of some ego boosting flashy overpriced novelty. I will not be too surprised or upset if the Elio never becomes a reality but I am willing to withhold judgment until it does or does not.

CT respects the 97.1% of climate science peer-reviewed papers which have established a position on global warming and the 98% of climate scientists who have stated their position, agree that global warming is real, caused by humans and extremely serious. The only real debate is what to do in an attempt to minimize the harm, which is a primary focus of this blog. Global warming denying comments are always irrelevant on CT and will be removed.

Global warming denier sites are not reliable sources. If they make a point and reference a peer-reviewed study published in a reputable journal or industry document, reference the study or document directly.
