Under half of the states surveyed even belonged to a regional supergrid, and of course the regional grids won’t be interconnected until Tres Amigas is operational. Long-distance transport of Midwest wind energy, Southern solar, and in furture Western geothermal will require a much more assertive federal leadership than any we’ve yet seen.
