For Germany the total installed capacity is about 33.8 GW (May 2013). In June another 310 MW where connected to the grid, but this number still needs confirmation by the federal grid agency.

All of this is bought by the grid owners (utilities) for the legal feed-in tarif.

Therefore it makes no sense to look at the size/scale of a PV-installation as with "utility scale " or "privat" . All fed-in electricity is purchased by the utilities.

Island systems, plug-and-play systems aren't counted in this statistic. Only those systems which feed-in into the public grids of utilities. Who in turn sell sell the electricity on to their consumers.

If anything China is probably only producing 10% of that number. They may have more solar panels installed but how much power do they produce? It's very possible the USA produces more real power from solar because we have nearly the same number of panels but they are in much sunnier latitudes.
