Sold Out! California Runs Out Of The Fiat 500e EV
Looking to purchase or lease a Fiat 500e EV? Well, you may be in for a long wait. The Fiat 500e EV is sold out at all the Fiat dealerships in California. The good news is that this not so surprising news will probably encourage Fiat to ramp up production for next year.
Although, there are no hard numbers on how many of the Fiat 500e’s were sold since its launch in April, there clearly weren’t enough to go around.
The Fiat 500e was rated as having a 116 MPG-equivalent fuel efficiency by the EPA and could be leased for a mere $199 a month. Being available for retail only in California will also likely change thanks to Fiat’s latest success.
Currently, there are 28 Fiat dealers in the state, which account for more than 10% of the 205 in the total US network. And California actually accounts for roughly 20% of US car sales of any type.
There is definitely a noticeable trend happening for the EV market in California. With time, that should spread to more of the country.
Of course, Fiat is not the only one that is taking notice of the growing EV market in California while running into EV supply issues. Earlier in June, Honda reported that it had sold out of the Fit EV. Also, Ford has been having trouble keeping its plug-in hybrids in stock in California.
It will be interesting to see how the EV makers will respond to this boost in EV sales. Will some expand their limited market beyond the California borders?
