Who the heck is your reader??? Incredibly informed person right there!

Any chance we could get them to write actual articles? Rather thorough and impressive analysis.

Great article BTW.

Yes, Maxi, there are crooks in this world. They can even get involved with renewable energy.

I hope you realize that this is an article about crime and not about the actual cost of wind power. I'd certainly not to assume that you are an anti-renewable energy troll.

If the solar + storage system dances to the power company's tune via the internet or other connection then the power company could be making a lot of money from arbitage. That the power company can have it store grid electricity when the wholesale price is low and supply grid electricity when the wholesale price is high. Here in South Australia today's wholesale price of electricity today will vary between zero cents and an estimated $12 a kilowatt-hour. While New Zealand probably doesn't have quite as much variation, there would still be plenty of scope to buy low and sell high.

Most countries feature two peaks. The first one is very broad stretched over the working hours with the maximum around noon. The second one begins with the end of the working hours, peaks during the late evening hours (moving around with the time it gets dark) and then the energy consumption falls to base levels during the night.

This two peaks are differ in dominance depending on how different countries do work. In Germany the really large peak that occurs during working is so dominant the second one is hardly noticeable (except Fridays, go figure). This is because the manufacturing industry uses shitloads of energy. In the UK the evening peak is the dominant one since selling stocks and insurances doesn't consume that much energy. I do not know how the NZ economy works all I know is that NZ is a country where the men are men and the sheep are frightened.

But why stay on the grid then, point less having main power connected. Mark W was right, going off the grid is the better option, no C02 emissions emitted from the home, so Mark W was right on this no carbon loading, if we are going to cut world wide C02 emissions than off grid is the way to go. Mark point out on this site many time that grid connected solar powered home have a "carbon loading" and we see here that NZ are moving to grid battery storage, but that still "carbon loading". look like NZ are far advance in there understanding of C02 emissions than the rest of the world.

"network operator is looking so actively for alternative solutions to dealing with the demands of the grid"

But Bob (mod) says that solar power reduces loading, but its quite clear that it not working, in fact that NZ has to move to battery grid storage prove the point that Bob (mod) is wrong on this."The intent appears to be to reduce the evening peak hence the sizeable battery capacity". So bob solar energy is only needed in evening peaks not during the day.
