Concerning story number 4 above. (AP article about how fracking has dramatically increased the availability of not only natural gas, but also domestic oil. - http://news.yahoo.com/technology-propels-old-energy-boom-155331085.html)

Fuel prices will probably not come down in the medium to long term with fracking. There IS more oil out there than thought, but this new trapped form COSTS much more to extract than conventional old oil that used to literally gush out of the ground at one stage. Not to mentions all the hidden environmental and health costs with this new oil from fracking (and I mean costs in $$$, not just human capital.)

Battery costs for electric vehicles are coming down fast and will continue to come down and even now are allowing low end pure electric vehicles to be more affordable that petroleum powered ICE vehicles (as far as total cost of vehicle itself and it's running costs combines are concerned.)
