Parts are imported (for now) and assembled into complete cars. That’s pretty standard procedure in the car business. Any workers putting parts together in the US are not living in Japan.

I suspect your insider source’s hobby is sucking lemons.

As time goes on more of the parts will be made in the US. Nissan has already build a battery plant alongside the assembly plant.
